Synopsis

Delhi has added 100 new electric buses to the DTC fleet and restarted an interstate electric bus service connecting the city with Dharuhera in Haryana. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted that expanding electric mobility can help commuters shift from private vehicles to cleaner transport, supporting the city's fight against air pollution. The electric bus fleet now exceeds 3,400 vehicles, with plans for further growth. Alongside the fleet expansion, charging infrastructure and previously suspended university bus services are being enhanced to improve accessibility and sustainability.

Delhi's government recently added 100 electric buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) fleet as part of ongoing efforts to reduce air pollution and enhance public transport options. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the buses from the Inter State Bus Terminal and also inaugurated a new interstate electric bus service connecting Delhi to Dharuhera in Haryana. This service had been inactive for several years, and its revival aims to improve regional connectivity while encouraging commuters to rely less on private vehicles.

Officials noted that the city's total electric bus fleet has now crossed 3,400 vehicles. The government plans to expand this number further in the coming months, gradually electrifying the entire bus network. Along with fleet expansion, the city is upgrading charging infrastructure at key bus depots to ensure smooth operations for the growing number of electric buses.

The administration has also resumed the university bus service, which had been closed in the past. In addition, a series of supportive measures, including new automatic pollution testing centres and upcoming initiatives aimed at enhancing commuter convenience, are being introduced alongside the expanded bus services. These steps are part of a wider effort to make Delhi's urban transport system cleaner, more sustainable, and better equipped to meet the demands of its residents.
