Bengaluru City Police has issued new guidelines requiring residential apartment associations to collect and maintain detailed tenant data, including identity and contact information, to enhance safety and enable faster response during emergencies. The directive, aimed at improving resident security and assisting law enforcement, also recommends documenting guest and staff details. Housing societies have been asked to submit data to local police stations regularly as part of the proactive safety measure.
The Bengaluru City Police have issued directives to residential apartment associations across the city mandating the collection of tenant information to help improve safety and support law enforcement efforts. Under the new guidelines, housing societies are required to obtain and maintain detailed data on all tenants, including identity and contact information.
The directive also encourages societies to record particulars of daily visitors, domestic staff and other regular service personnel. This initiative is intended to ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is available to police in case of emergencies or security concerns.
Apartment associations have been instructed to compile tenant data and share it periodically with their respective local police stations. The Bengaluru police said the move is aimed at enabling quicker response times and enhancing community safety through better coordination between residents and law enforcement.
Officials noted that, while resident privacy remains a priority, the structured collection of information will assist police in identifying individuals in critical situations and support investigations when required.
The new requirement applies to all registered residential apartment associations in the city and is part of broader efforts to strengthen neighbourhood safety frameworks. Housing societies have been urged to begin compliance with the guidelines immediately and maintain accurate records going forward.
