Synopsis

Nagpur's road between Zero Mile and Automotive Square will be redeveloped using high-quality cement concrete to ensure it remains pothole-free for at least 25 years. The project, part of broader city road improvements, includes modern drainage systems, wider footpaths, and dedicated cycle tracks. Similar concrete upgrades are planned for the Poddareshwar Ram Mandir Pardi Square corridor. A 6.1 km Central Avenue stretch is also being upgraded. Additionally, a INR 560 crore flyover has been approved to ease congestion, while encroachment removal and planning corrections are being implemented to enhance long-term traffic flow and infrastructure durability.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari announced that the road connecting Zero Mile to Automotive Square in Nagpur will undergo redevelopment using high-quality cement concrete. This construction is designed to prevent potholes for at least 25 years. Gadkari shared this update during the bhoomipooja marking the start of the concrete works, highlighting the government's focus on long-term durability for key urban roads.

The redevelopment will cover a four-lane, 6.14 km stretch from Reserve Bank of India Chowk to Automotive Square Metro Station, which forms part of the old National Highway 44 on the Nagpur Jabalpur route. The project carries a budget of INR 150 crore. A similar 6.1 km Central Avenue section from Ram Mandir Prajapati Nagar on Nagpur Bhandara Road is also being upgraded at the same cost. Both projects are part of efforts to enhance urban road safety, traffic flow, and long-term reliability.

The upgraded road will feature modern drainage systems, well-laid footpaths, and dedicated cycle tracks. These measures are aimed at improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists while ensuring the concrete surface maintains its integrity over decades. Officials emphasized that proper drainage is crucial to preventing early deterioration, addressing a common challenge in city roads.

In addition to these upgrades, the government has approved a INR 560 crore flyover between Police Line Takli and Katol Naka to ease local traffic congestion. Gadkari also addressed planning errors at the LIC Square flyover landing, noting that alternative designs are in progress with Central Road Fund allocations already in place. Encroachments on footpaths are being cleared carefully, and affected vendors will be provided with suitable relocation options.

Authorities indicated that the Poddareshwar Ram Mandir to Pardi Square corridor will also receive cement concrete upgrades similar to the Zero Mile Automotive Square stretch, ensuring uniform road quality across major city arteries. These developments align with a broader strategy to modernize Nagpur's transport infrastructure, combining durability, safety, and improved mobility for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
