Synopsis

Nagpur has received a major infrastructure push with projects worth INR 2,980 crore being inaugurated and launched across the city and nearby Vidarbha areas. The works cover roads, drainage, sewage, water supply, footpaths and civic facilities, involving agencies such as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Nagpur Improvement Trust, Public Works Department, MahaMetro and MahaRail. The programme took place shortly before the State Election Commission announced municipal election dates, bringing attention to the scale of ongoing urban development and the focus on improving basic city infrastructure.

Nagpur recently witnessed the launch and inauguration of infrastructure projects worth INR 2,980 crore, covering a wide range of civic and urban works. The programme included completed projects as well as foundation stone ceremonies held at multiple locations across the city, with some works extending into surrounding parts of Vidarbha. The rollout came just before the State Election Commission announced the schedule for municipal elections, placing the spotlight on the pace of civic development in the city.

The projects were launched at key locations including Gaddigodam Chowk, Harihar Mandir Chowk and near the Lakadganj Police Station. Several state and local leaders attended the events, while the Chief Minister joined one of the programmes virtually from Pune. The initiatives brought together works executed by different agencies, reflecting a coordinated approach to city-level infrastructure upgrades.

A major portion of the projects focused on improving road connectivity and restoring stretches affected by Metro construction. These included cement concrete roads, upgraded junctions, footpaths and cycle tracks. Alongside roads, works related to drainage lines, sewage networks and water supply systems were also taken up to address long-standing civic issues in several neighbourhoods.

Under the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, foundations were laid for projects worth INR 430 crore, while completed works valued at INR 130 crore were formally opened. The Nagpur Improvement Trust announced projects worth INR 510 crore, which included INR 175 crore worth of completed works and INR 335 crore in new initiatives. These projects are spread across residential and commercial zones, aiming to ease traffic flow and improve basic services.

Officials from MahaMetro and MahaRail highlighted that road repairs and integration of utilities were planned to ensure smoother coordination with existing and upcoming Metro corridors. The Public Works Department also carried out supporting infrastructure works to strengthen arterial roads and connecting routes.

Leaders present at the event said the projects were part of ongoing efforts to upgrade Nagpur's urban infrastructure and improve daily commuting and civic services. The scale and spread of the works indicate a continued focus on long-term infrastructure rather than isolated upgrades, with emphasis on durability and integrated planning.
