Synopsis

Allcargo Terminals Ltd has increased the capacity of its container freight station near Jawaharlal Nehru Port in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to 3.6 lakh TEUs annually, up from 1.90 lakh TEUs. The expansion includes a 25 per cent rise in warehousing space, dedicated zones for special and over-dimensional cargo, and RTG-enabled yard operations. The move is part of the company's three-year strategy focused on scale, digitisation, and infrastructure, while supporting growing EXIM trade volumes and JNPT's long-term capacity goals.

Allcargo Terminals Ltd, a multimodal logistics operator and a subsidiary of the Allcargo Group, announced an increase in the annual handling capacity of its container freight station near Jawaharlal Nehru Port in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The facility's capacity has been expanded to 3.6 lakh TEUs from the earlier 1.90 lakh TEUs, marking a significant scale-up at one of India's busiest port-linked logistics zones.

The expansion aligns with the company's broader growth strategy and its focus on strengthening India's export-import trade infrastructure. The company indicated that this development is a core part of its three-year strategic plan, which places emphasis on scale, digitisation, and infrastructure upgrades across its national network of facilities.

Management highlighted the importance of Jawaharlal Nehru Port as a key gateway for the country's EXIM trade. The company explained that the increase in capacity was planned to meet rising cargo movement and to improve handling efficiency through additional yard space and enhanced warehousing infrastructure. According to the company, these improvements will allow it to manage higher cargo flows with greater accuracy and operational control.

As part of the upgrade, the container freight station has seen a 25 per cent increase in warehousing capacity. Dedicated areas have also been created for special cargo and over-dimensional cargo, catering to more complex logistics requirements. The expanded yard now operates with RTG-enabled and tag-less systems, which are expected to improve turnaround times and operational efficiency.

The company stated that the capacity enhancement supports Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority's longer-term objective of becoming the first Indian port to handle 10 million TEUs by 2027. Proximity to the port continues to be a key advantage for the facility, enabling faster cargo movement and reduced dwell time. Advanced safety and security systems have also been integrated as part of the upgrade.

Digital integration remains central to operations at the facility. Tools such as the MyCFS mobile application and smart yard management systems are being used to ensure paperless processes, better visibility, and smoother coordination. The company noted that these systems are designed to respond directly to customer feedback and growing volume requirements.

In addition to this facility, Allcargo Terminals operates another container freight station near Jawaharlal Nehru Port through its wholly owned subsidiary, Speedy Multimodes. Overall, the company manages seven container freight stations and inland container depot facilities across major ports in India, reinforcing its presence in port-led logistics infrastructure.
