Synopsis

Mohali Municipal Corporation has intensified enforcement against chronic property tax defaulters, focusing on commercial and industrial establishments with long-standing unpaid dues. Authorities have issued sealing notices under the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, giving defaulters a brief period to clear outstanding taxes. Non-compliance will result in property sealing and possible auction to recover unpaid tax, penalties, and interest. The civic body emphasized using official channels, including the M-Seva App, to make payments. Officials warned that delays would affect essential civic services funding and stressed accountability for property owners.

Mohali Municipal Corporation has stepped up actions against property tax defaulters, targeting commercial and industrial properties that have repeatedly ignored reminders to pay dues. Sealing notices have been issued under the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, providing a short period for defaulters to settle outstanding taxes. Authorities have stated that failure to comply will result in properties being sealed, and the civic body has the legal right to auction such properties to recover unpaid tax, interest and penalties.

Municipal officials clarified that owners or occupiers will be fully responsible for any damage or loss to goods, equipment or stock in sealed properties. The civic body will not bear any liability for such losses. Along with property tax, penalties up to 20% of the tax amount and interest at 18% from the original due date will be recovered from defaulters.

The current enforcement drive covers properties across various phases and sectors of Mohali. Property owners can make payments at the Municipal Corporation office in Sector 68, through Municipal Bhawan, or using approved online platforms including the M-Seva App. Tax officials emphasized that prompt payment ensures uninterrupted funding for civic services such as sanitation, street lighting, roads, water supply, and other public amenities. They warned that continued non-compliance will lead to legal measures including sealing, auction, and additional proceedings under municipal law.

Officials also noted that while enforcement measures are strict, the corporation aims to provide convenient payment channels for defaulters to comply voluntarily. This approach ensures revenue collection is maintained without disrupting essential services and underscores the importance of civic responsibility among property owners in the city.
