Mappls, the digital mapping and navigation platform from MapmyIndia, has expanded its services by introducing multimodal public transport routing across metro rail and bus networks. The new feature allows users to plan journeys using different public transport modes within a single app, showing routes, stations, stops and interchange points. Currently available on web and iOS platforms, the service covers several major Indian cities and will be extended to Android users and more urban centres in phases, with support from transport authorities to improve data accuracy and coverage.
Mappls has rolled out a multimodal public transport routing feature that integrates metro rail and bus journeys into its navigation platform. The update enables users to plan end-to-end public transport trips by combining different modes of travel and viewing route options, boarding points, interchange stations and stops in one interface. The feature is aimed at simplifying daily commuting in large urban centres where multiple transport systems operate in parallel.
The public transport routing service is currently available on the web and iOS versions of the Mappls app, with an Android rollout planned in the near term. In its initial phase, the feature covers key cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kochi and Bhopal. The company has stated that additional cities will be added gradually as more transport data becomes accessible.
Mappls has developed the feature using a mix of official transport data and its own mapping intelligence. Users can compare different travel options based on available public transport networks, helping them make informed choices between metro rail, buses and mixed-mode journeys. The company has indicated that it is working closely with metro operators and state transport agencies to ensure route information, station details and connectivity data remain accurate and up to date.
The addition of multimodal routing builds on Mappls existing navigation capabilities, which include turn-by-turn directions, traffic updates and location-based services. Over the years, the platform has positioned itself as an India-focused alternative in the digital mapping space, with growing usage across consumer mobility and enterprise applications. The new public transport feature aligns with broader efforts to support sustainable urban mobility and improve access to mass transit systems.
