Synopsis

The proposed Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport is expected to start operations by 2027, with initial discussions with aviation service providers already yielding positive responses. One construction package has received a work order, with the project sanctioned at INR 10,507 crore. A pilot training institute is also planned at the existing Kota airport. Alongside aviation plans, Kota is targeted to become slum-free and drug-free by 2026. The Hadouti region is being positioned for water-based and agro-based industries, supported by improved connectivity through the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota-Bundi MP Om Birla has said that the proposed Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport is expected to become operational by 2027, according to assurances received from the concerned departments. He stated that preparations are progressing and discussions have already begun with aviation service providers, with initial responses described as encouraging.

Birla noted that key procedural steps for the airport's construction have moved forward. The tendering process for two packages has been completed, and a work order has been issued for one package. The sanctioned cost for the project stands at INR 10,507 crore, reflecting the scale of the planned greenfield development aimed at improving regional air connectivity.

In parallel, plans are underway to strengthen aviation infrastructure at the existing Kota airport. Birla said a pilot training institute is proposed at the current facility, which could support aviation skill development and create ancillary employment opportunities in the region.

Beyond aviation, Birla outlined broader urban and regional development goals. He said Kota is targeted to become slum-free by 2026, with provisions being made for rental housing for people currently living on streets and footpaths. Efforts are also being undertaken to make the city drug-free by 2026.

On the industrial front, Birla highlighted the Hadouti region's potential to emerge as a water-based industrial hub, citing adequate water availability from rivers including the Chambal, Parvati, Kalisindh and Parvan. He added that agro-based industries are also planned to be developed alongside water-dependent sectors.

He further pointed to improved market access for farmers due to better road connectivity. With the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway reducing travel time between the two cities, fruit and vegetable growers in the Hadouti region are expected to gain access to wider markets.

Birla also referred to a recent conservation effort, calling the inter-state translocation of tigress PN-224 from Pench Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh to Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Bundi a significant milestone under the Inter-State Tiger Reintroduction Programme. He noted that a helicopter was stationed for several days to facilitate the operation.
