Synopsis

Mumbai's Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, will operate continuously overnight from New Year's Eve into New Year's Day to help late-night commuters and support celebrations across the city. The 33.5 km underground corridor, connecting Cuffe Parade to Aarey, has recently become fully operational after phased openings over the past year. The overnight service will reduce dependence on road transport, ease congestion, and ensure safe travel. Authorities have advised passengers to plan journeys according to the extended schedule, which complements additional train and bus services arranged for the festive night.

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has announced that Metro Line 3, also called the Aqua Line, will operate continuously through New Year's Eve into the early hours of New Year's Day. The extended service is scheduled to begin after 10:30 pm on New Year's Eve and run until around 5:55 am the following morning, after which the normal metro timetable will resume. Authorities have advised commuters to plan their journeys according to this special schedule to avoid inconvenience.

The overnight operation aims to provide safe and reliable transport for residents and visitors celebrating into the New Year while reducing reliance on road vehicles and easing congestion across the city. The service is part of broader arrangements that include additional local trains and BEST buses to manage high passenger volumes during late-night celebrations.

Metro Line 3 spans 33.5 km with 27 stations, connecting Cuffe Parade in the south to Aarey in the north. It links major business districts, residential areas, and transit hubs, making it a crucial addition to Mumbai's urban transport network. The line recently achieved full operational status after phased openings over the past year, which marked a major step in improving connectivity across the city.

The project, developed by MMRCL with funding from Japanese Official Development Assistance loans, demonstrates long-term efforts to enhance urban mobility. Running the metro overnight during high-demand periods reflects the city's focus on providing convenient, safe, and accessible travel options for commuters. The line has already contributed to easing pressure on road traffic during peak hours and is expected to play a similar role during major events and festivals in the future.
