Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd has commissioned a 1 GW solar power project for SJVN, with capacity allocated to utilities in Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. The domestically manufactured, DCR-compliant project is expected to generate over 2,454 million units of green power in its first year and offset nearly 1.74 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. All solar modules were produced at TP Solar's Tirunelveli facility. The commissioning has raised TPREL's total utility-scale renewable capacity to 11.6 GW.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd has commissioned a 1 GW solar power project developed for state-owned hydropower major SJVN, marking one of the company's largest utility-scale clean energy deliveries. The parent company, Tata Power, confirmed that the newly operational capacity has been distributed among three state utilities to meet regional power requirements.
Of the total capacity, 500 MW has been allocated to Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Ltd, while Jammu and Kashmir Power Ltd will receive 300 MW. Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd has been allotted the remaining 200 MW. The electricity generated from the project will be supplied directly to these three states to support their grid demand.
The project is a domestically manufactured, DCR-compliant solar installation with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW AC, equivalent to 1,400 MWp DC. It has been executed as part of SJVN's broader renewable expansion programme aimed at increasing clean power procurement by state utilities.
According to Tata Power, the project is expected to generate about 2,454.84 million units of green electricity in its first year of operations. This output is projected to help offset close to 1.74 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, contributing to India's clean energy and decarbonisation targets.
All 2.4 million solar modules used in the project were manufactured at TP Solar's integrated solar cell and module facility in Tirunelveli, underlining Tata Power's focus on domestic manufacturing and supply chain localisation.
With this commissioning, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd's total utility-scale renewable portfolio has increased to 11.6 GW. This includes 4.9 GW of capacity delivered through third-party engineering, procurement and construction contracts, strengthening the company's position as a major renewable energy developer and EPC player in India.
