Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has distributed work orders under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban scheme to 855 urban poor beneficiaries in Sambalpur, aiming to support construction of pucca homes for low-income families. The event, held in the municipal area, also saw foundation stones laid for several development projects worth millions of rupees. The minister noted that providing safe and dignified housing to economically disadvantaged urban families remains a priority, and highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring scheme benefits reach eligible beneficiaries. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve urban living conditions, infrastructure and civic amenities in the district.
In Sambalpur, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan distributed work orders under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban scheme to 855 urban poor families earlier this week. The distribution was aimed at facilitating the construction of pucca houses, providing beneficiaries with financial support and formal documentation to proceed with housing construction.
The programme was held within the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation area, where work orders were issued to eligible families for the current financial year. Pradhan said the step is intended to help poor urban households attain safe and dignified living conditions through access to formal housing benefits provided under the housing scheme.
Alongside the distribution of housing work orders, foundation stones were also laid for several developmental projects in the city, with financial outlays running into crores of rupees. These projects are expected to enhance infrastructure, public utilities and civic amenities across the municipal area.
Pradhan reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring that the benefits of central and state welfare schemes reach the last eligible person in the line. He noted that initiatives such as financial assistance for street vendors, support under pension schemes and urban housing benefits form an integrated approach to uplifting living standards.
Officials from the municipal corporation and local representatives were present at the event, which highlighted both housing support and broader developmental priorities for Sambalpur's urban population. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to accelerate inclusive urban development and improve quality of life for economically vulnerable residents.
