Synopsis

Residents of Kathbangla colony along the Rispana riverbank in Dehradun continue to live under the fear of eviction and demolition as the promised Economically Weaker Section (EWS) flats are yet to be handed over. Notices from the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), issued under a National Green Tribunal directive, gave 116 families 15 days to vacate. Over a month later, relocation has not taken place due to pending infrastructure work at the EWS site. The prolonged delay has caused anxiety, protests, and uncertainty for the affected families.

Residents of Kathbangla colony along the Rispana riverbank are still waiting for the EWS flats promised by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC), while continuing to face the threat of demolition. The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) had issued notices to 116 families, asking them to vacate their homes within 15 days under a National Green Tribunal (NGT) order that prohibits encroachments on river floodplains. The plan was to relocate these families to newly constructed EWS flats nearby.

Despite the notices being served, relocation has not yet occurred, leaving residents anxious about sudden demolition. Residents have held protests in the city, opposing the notices and seeking clarity. Authorities have assured that no demolition will take place until the DMC completes the relocation process.

The ongoing situation leaves families in a state of limbo, with daily life disrupted and mental stress increasing. The lack of timely relocation not only affects their immediate housing security but also raises concerns about proper coordination between agencies responsible for the project. Residents continue to wait, hoping the flats will be delivered before any action is taken on the notices, while authorities attempt to balance legal directives with humane relocation.
