In the midst of mounting anticipation, applicants for the MHADA Mumbai Housing Lottery 2023 are on tenterhooks as the agency remains silent on the date of the draw. Earlier slated for July 18, the date was postponed due to an extension in the application deadline. MHADA officials have, however, assured the anxious masses that the much-awaited date will be revealed in a matter of days.



A staggering 1,20,144 valid entries have been registered for a total of 4,082 flats, spanning prime locales such as Juhu, Andheri, and Ghatkopar, among others. The housing board has successfully amassed an earnest money deposit totalling a colossal Rs 519 crore. Those unsuccessful in their bid will be compensated with an online refund.



There's also been speculation among Mumbaikars that the board has been profiting from bank interest on the substantial Rs 519 crore deposit during this waiting period. However, a MHADA official was quick to downplay such conjectures, stating, "For a robust establishment like MHADA, Rs 500 crore is a modest amount. We're committed to announcing the lottery date soon."



The 4,082 flats on offer comprise a mix of various categories. Notably, 1,947 of these fall under the PMJAY (urban) scheme, primarily located in Pahadi Goregaon, attracting 22,472 applicants. Additionally, the EWS (economically weaker section) features 843 units, with a significant preference for Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli, evident from the 28,862 bids. The low-income group (LIG) has 1,034 homes in Pahadi Goregaon drawing 60,522 hopefuls, while the middle-income segment boasts 138 units in Unnat Nagar, Goregaon, with 8,395 contenders. Lastly, the high-income segment has generated interest from 2,068 individuals for its 120 flats, mainly in Shimpoli, Kandivli.



In conclusion, as the anticipation reaches a fever pitch among the hopeful residents of Mumbai, clarity on the lottery date remains the city's collective plea. The coming days will undoubtedly be crucial for both MHADA and the 1.2 lakh aspirants.
