Rajasthan is accelerating its urban development through the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP) with investments totaling INR 5,500 crore. The state government, led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, is executing projects to improve sewerage, water supply, drainage, and urban beautification across multiple cities. About 70% of funding is provided by the Asian Development Bank, with the state covering the rest. Tranche-I and II projects are benefiting over 4.9 million residents, while completed Phase III works have strengthened sanitation and water supply in key cities.
Rajasthan is steadily strengthening its urban infrastructure through the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP), with a combined investment of INR 5,500 crore. The state government, under Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, is focused on enhancing sewerage, water supply, drainage, and urban beautification in cities across Rajasthan. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is funding 70% of the projects, while the state contributes 30%, reflecting a collaborative effort to improve urban living standards.
Under RUIDP Phase IV (Tranche-I), projects worth INR 3,076.63 crore are underway in 14 cities for sewerage and water supply, and in 12 cities for Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM). Completed works include water supply improvements in Laxmangarh, and sewerage projects in Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Didwana, Makrana, and Mandawa. Ongoing projects are active in Sirohi, Abu Road, Sardarshahar, Banswara, Khetri, Kuchaman, Ratangarh, and Ladnun. FSSM projects have been completed in Bandikui, Dausa, Jobner, and Neem Ka Thana, with remaining cities progressing. As of September, approximately INR 2,302 crore has been spent, benefiting around 1.8 million residents.
Phase IV (Tranche-II) encompasses projects worth INR 2,450 crore in 16 cities, covering sewerage, water supply, drainage, and urban beautification. Key works include sewerage and water supply projects in Nokha, Bundi, Dungarpur, Balotra, and Sagwara; water supply improvements in Nimbahera and Nathdwara; sewerage projects in Jodhpur, Barmer, and Bharatpur; drainage works in Jodhpur, Nawalgarh, Ratangarh, Bundi, and Bhawanimandi; and beautification projects in Bharatpur, Sagwara, Pushkar, and Jaisalmer. Work orders of INR 1,995 crore have been issued, and INR 984 crore has already been spent. These projects are projected to directly benefit around 3.1 million residents.
Significant sewerage projects worth INR 602 crore have been completed in Bhilwara, Sawai Madhopur, and Jhalawar-Jhalrapatan, improving sanitation and serving thousands of households. Under Phase III, projects worth INR 3,930.45 crore have been completed, including sewerage and water supply works in Pali, Jhunjhunu, and Tonk; sewerage works in Udaipur, Mount Abu, Bikaner, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Jhalawar-Jhalrapatan, and Bhilwara; and drainage works in Banswara. Ongoing works continue in Sri Ganganagar, focusing on sewerage and water supply.
The Department of Local Self Government is overseeing all these projects, aiming to ensure sustainable, efficient, and modern urban infrastructure. By enhancing water access, sanitation, and drainage, the RUIDP initiatives are set to significantly improve the quality of urban living for residents across Rajasthan.
