Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma has urged the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to speed up repairs and adopt rigid pavements on key highways, particularly the Aizawl-Vairengte route, due to severe damage. He emphasized the urgency of timely repairs during the Contractor Liability Period and recommended that completed bypasses be handed over to the State Public Works Department (PWD) for maintenance. Additionally, he highlighted the collapse of Thingfal's Mamte 'T' Baptist Church, allegedly caused by road-cutting activities, and called for quick action.
Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma convened a review meeting on September 23, 2025, with officials from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to assess the condition of national highways and ongoing road projects in the state. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister's Conference Hall, was attended by Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vanlalhlana, senior officials from the PWD, Planning & Economics Department, and NHIDCL.
During the meeting, CM Lalduhoma expressed concern over the presence of potholes and surface damage on many highway stretches. He highlighted the importance of conducting timely and proper repairs during the Contractor Liability Period (CLP) to maintain road durability. He stated, "The Aizawl-Vairengte highway, regarded as the lifeline of Mizoram, must receive the highest priority."
Lalduhoma also highlighted the need for effective road planning, suggesting that new bypass roads should be formally handed over to the State PWD for maintenance once constructed. Additionally, he proposed to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) the use of rigid pavement in Mizoram, citing the region's heavy rainfall and prolonged monsoon seasons as factors that accelerate the damage of conventional flexible roads. NHIDCL officials informed him that MoRTH has already directed the corporation to examine the proposal, and Lalduhoma urged for speedy action.
The CM raised concerns about the collapse of Thingfal's Mamte 'T' Baptist Church, reportedly caused by road-cutting activities. NHIDCL informed that the Lunglei district Deputy Commissioner's office has assessed the damages, and the report has been forwarded to the Project Management Unit (PMU) for submission to NHIDCL Headquarters.
Regional executive director of NHIDCL, Mizoram, Adelbert Susngi, assured the CM that all issues raised would be addressed promptly. NHIDCL also briefed Lalduhoma on various challenges faced at project sites.
