Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Odisha to inaugurate railway projects worth more than INR 1,700 crore and flag off the Amrit Bharat Express connecting Berhampur in Odisha with Udhna in Surat, Gujarat. This new train service is intended to enhance connectivity across multiple states, improving travel for passengers and facilitating industrial and mineral transport in key regions.
The Amrit Bharat Express offers modern facilities aimed at improving speed, safety, and passenger comfort while remaining affordable. It departed from Berhampur Railway Station at noon, with stops at Palasa, Vizianagaram, Rayagada, Titlagarh, Raipur, Nagpur, Bhusaval, and Nandurbar. Authorities stated that the regular schedule for the train will be announced shortly.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi addressed a public gathering at Amlipali Ground near Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda. The event was originally planned for Berhampur but was shifted due to expected heavy rainfall in southern Odisha.
In addition to the train, Modi inaugurated a 5 km flyover in Sambalpur City, built at a cost of INR 273 crore. In southern Odisha, he dedicated the doubling of the 34 km Koraput-Baiguda rail line and the 82 km Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur section, built at a combined cost of around INR 1,400 crore. These projects are expected to strengthen mineral transport, boost regional connectivity, and support local communities and industries.
Under the 'Seva Parv' initiative, Modi announced the expansion of eight Indian Institutes of Technology, granted super-speciality status to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur, launched a national skill development program, and extended support to 50,000 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya scheme.
These combined efforts highlight the government's focus on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and skill enhancement to drive holistic growth in Odisha and the surrounding regions.
