Delhi Metro's Pink Line is set to become the network's longest corridor at 71.6 km with 46 stations once the Majlis Park-Maujpur extension becomes operational later this month. The extension will also make it the line with the highest number of interchange stations at 12, surpassing other lines in the network. The Pink Line's completion will create a circular route, improving connectivity and allowing smoother transfers between different metro lines. Phase IV expansion plans will add more interchange stations, further enhancing the network.
Delhi Metro's Pink Line is expected to become the longest corridor in the network, covering a distance of 71.6 km with 46 stations. This milestone is anticipated with the operationalization of the Majlis Park-Maujpur extension, which is expected to be completed later this month. The extension will also make the Pink Line the metro line with the highest number of interchange stations, totaling 12.
Currently, Delhi Metro has 29 interchange stations across its network. The Pink Line's 10 existing interchange stations include Azadpur, Netaji Subhas Place, Punjabi Bagh West, Rajouri Garden, Dilli Haat-INA, Lajpat Nagar, Mayur Vihar I, Anand Vihar ISBT, Karkardooma, and Welcome. With the addition of Maujpur and Majlis Park stations, the Pink Line will have 12 interchange stations, the highest among all metro lines in Delhi.
Interchange stations are crucial as they allow passengers to switch from one line to another without exiting the station, facilitating seamless travel across the network. An analysis by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) indicated that a significant percentage of passengers utilize interchange stations to transfer between lines, highlighting the importance of these hubs in the metro system.
The Pink Line, which was inaugurated in phases between 2018 and 2021, will become the first circular route in the DMRC network with the completion of the Majlis Park-Maujpur extension. This circular route will enhance connectivity and reduce travel time for passengers, making it a significant addition to the metro network.
Following the completion of the Majlis Park-Maujpur extension, the DMRC plans to further expand the network under Phase IV. This expansion will include the Tughlaqabad-Aerocity corridor, which will have seven interchange stations, and the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram segment, which will have three interchange stations. These developments aim to improve connectivity and accommodate the growing ridership of the Delhi Metro.
