The Calcutta High Court has resolved a long-standing issue that was delaying the Orange Line metro construction at Chingrighata. The work had been stalled since early February due to the Kolkata Police not issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) required for cordoning off a section of the busy EM Bypass. A meeting involving Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), Metro Railway, Kolkata Police, and state officials resolved the matter. With the clearance in place, the last 366-meter stretch of the viaduct will be constructed, and girder-launching is scheduled for two weekends in November.
The Calcutta High Court has recently resolved the obstacle that was delaying the Orange Line metro project at Chingrighata. The construction had been on hold since early February because the Kolkata Police had not issued a No Objection Certificate needed to cordon off a part of the busy EM Bypass for metro work.
The court was informed that the issue had been settled in a meeting held earlier this month. The meeting included Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), the implementing agency for the metro line, Metro Railway, Kolkata Police, and state government officials. The minutes of the meeting were submitted to the court, and the High Court expressed satisfaction with the resolution, confirming that metro work could now continue without hindrance.
With the NOC in place, the final 366-meter viaduct at Chingrighata, where metro tracks will be laid, is now ready for construction. The state government has scheduled the girder-launching work for two weekend nights in November, ensuring that the work will proceed efficiently. The High Court also noted that if any further issues arise during the execution of the work, they should be brought before the court immediately.
This development is a key milestone in the construction of the 32-kilometer New Garia-Airport metro corridor. The Orange Line is expected to improve connectivity across Kolkata, offering smoother travel between the southern and northern parts of the city. The resolution of the Chingrighata issue marks a crucial step toward completing this metro corridor, which has faced multiple delays since its inception.
