Synopsis

A newly built high-rise residential complex comprising 184 expansive flats for Members of Parliament is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Located on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, the four-tower project was completed within two years by Sam India Infrastructure under the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). Designed with enhanced space and modern construction techniques, the flats offer generous amenities, including offices, helper rooms, and a community centre. With solar panels and sustainable features, the project aims to achieve a GRIHA 4-star rating.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will soon inaugurate a newly completed residential complex comprising 184 high-end flats for Members of Parliament on Baba Kharak Singh Marg in central Delhi. The project is expected to partially address the persistent shortage of official residences for lawmakers in the high-demand Lutyens' Delhi zone.

Built by Sam India Infrastructure under the supervision of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the project features four 25-storey towers, each equipped with two basement levels. The construction was completed in just two years using rapid techniques involving reinforced cement concrete (RCC) and aluminium shuttering, which allowed structural roofs to be laid every 10-12 days three times faster than conventional methods.

The complex has seen enthusiastic demand among MPs, owing to the generous size and facilities offered in each unit. Every flat spans approximately 5,000 sq ft of carpet area and includes five bedrooms, dedicated office spaces for MPs and their personal assistants, and two additional rooms for support staff. Each room comes with its own attached bathroom, making these units larger and more modern than the traditional Type-VIII bungalows, which were previously the highest category of government accommodation.

The total project cost stands at around INR 550 crore. According to CPWD officials, the structural design ensures a lifespan of more than 100 years. The basement levels can collectively accommodate up to 500 cars, addressing the need for secure parking. Additionally, the complex houses a community centre with facilities for social gatherings, along with four retail shops to cater to basic needs of the resident MPs.

Environmental sustainability was also prioritized in the project. Solar panels have been installed on the rooftops, and officials are confident of securing a GRIHA 4-star certification a rating that recognizes top-tier environmental performance in building infrastructure.

This development follows recent steps taken by the government to modernize official housing infrastructure for elected representatives in the Capital. Over the past few years, there has been a consistent push toward vertical housing projects for government officials to optimize land use and reduce maintenance costs of ageing bungalows.
