Three properties in Sushant Lok 1, Gurugram were sealed by the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) during an enforcement drive conducted earlier this week. Authorities cited violations of residential zoning regulations, including illegal commercial operations and unauthorised construction. A crèche plot was being misused for educational and dance classes, a residential building was operating as a girls' hostel, and parking space had been converted into living units. While residents responded with mixed views, the department stated the action was necessary to uphold civic order.
The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) conducted an enforcement drive in Sushant Lok 1 earlier this week, sealing three properties for breaching residential zoning norms. Officials explained that a plot in C-2 Block, designated for a crèche, had been repurposed for school and dance classes. This unauthorised use had raised concerns about child safety, traffic build-up and deviation from approved land use.
In another instance, DTCP officers sealed a building in B Block that had been granted an occupation certificate for residential use but was found functioning as a girls' hostel. The site also reportedly hosted other commercial activities, leading to disruption in the residential environment and increased strain on local infrastructure.
Additionally, unauthorised construction was discovered in the stilt area of a residential building. The space, originally meant for parking, had been partitioned and enclosed-indicating possible use as additional living or commercial units. DTCP officials confirmed that the alterations were carried out despite the building having already secured occupation clearance, and the illegal structure was sealed immediately.
DTCP representatives commented that the operation was vital to maintain the planned nature of residential areas such as Sushant Lok 1, where unauthorised commercial activities not only threaten safety and civic resources but also create imbalance in urban zoning. Residents reactions were divided. While several supported the crackdown, citing improved traffic movement and restored residential calm, others expressed discontent over the lack of prior warnings to the owners before sealing their properties.
By sealing properties that breached zoning regulations-whether through unauthorised hostels, commercial use of crèche plots or stilt-level alterations-the department has underscored the importance of preserving neighbourhood planning and civic infrastructure. Although the crackdown prompted some backlash from affected owners, it has also found support among residents who hope for stricter compliance and sustained action against illegal land use in upscale urban colonies.
