This move is designed to provide dedicated leadership for the execution and delivery of key national renewable energy initiatives.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has named Akash Tripathi, a senior IAS officer, as its new Managing Director. The appointment was formalised by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and sees Tripathi taking on a leadership role with the rank of Additional Secretary, a high-ranking position within the bureaucracy. Tripathi will work alongside Santosh Sarangi, who will continue in his role as SECI's Chairman.
Tripathi brings a diverse professional background to his new role. Prior to this appointment, he served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power and held key positions in digital governance, including MD & CEO of the Digital India Corporation, CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, and CEO of MyGov.in. His experience in both public administration and digital initiatives is expected to be a significant asset as he leads SECI in scaling up its ambitious green energy projects.
The appointment comes at a crucial time for India's renewable energy sector. SECI, as the designated agency for implementing national renewable energy initiatives, is at the forefront of the country's mission to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. SECI's recent achievements include the successful commissioning of India's largest Battery Energy Storage System in Chhattisgarh and crossing the milestone of executing over 60 GW of Power Sale Agreements.
With a fixed tenure and the rank of an Additional Secretary, Tripathi's role is to provide stable and dedicated leadership to accelerate progress in critical areas like competitive bidding for solar, wind, and hybrid projects, as well as advancing India's burgeoning green hydrogen and energy storage sectors.
