Synopsis

Rapido has partnered with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to introduce metro ticket booking through its app. As part of this initiative, the company will provide first-time users a free ride and offer fixed-fare rides to and from metro stations for INR 25. Initially rolled out at 30 Delhi metro stations, the service will include designated pick-up and drop-off points. Rapido, which already facilitates metro ticketing in Kochi and Chennai, claims to serve over 8 lakh daily users, 40% of whom are women drivers.

Metro commuters in Delhi can now conveniently book their tickets through the Rapido ride-hailing app, thanks to a new integration powered by the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The development, confirmed by the company earlier this week, marks a significant step in enhancing the capital's public transportation experience.

Rapido's co-founder, Aravind Sanka, stated that in addition to ticket booking, the platform will provide fixed-fare rides to and from metro stations at INR 25. He also mentioned that the first ride would be complimentary for users who opt to purchase their metro ticket via the Rapido app.

This service has already been implemented for metro systems in Kochi and Chennai through previous collaborations with ONDC. The Delhi launch extends the initiative's reach, with services being made available at 30 metro stations across the city. The company also plans to set up specific pick-up and drop-off points at these select stations to streamline the rider experience.

Sanka added that Rapido sees a daily user base of over 8 lakh commuters, with women accounting for 40% of its driver partners. Notably, around 1 lakh users currently use the app specifically for travel to or from metro stations, highlighting the growing demand for efficient last-mile connectivity in metropolitan areas.

DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar noted that the partnership with Rapido, enabled through ONDC, reflects a forward-thinking approach in delivering seamless and connected travel options for Delhi's commuters. He added that this initiative aligns with DMRC's broader goal of transforming the customer experience into one of delight and convenience.

With a sizable existing user base and experience in metro-enabled services in other cities, Rapido is well-positioned to expand further within the public transport landscape.
