The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is embarking on a progressive and dynamic recovery drive, scheduled to commence on July 15th, with a primary focus on prominent property tax defaulters who have amassed outstanding dues exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh. Within the vast landscape of over 2 lakh tax defaulters, encompassing both large and small properties, the cumulative amount of unpaid taxes looms at an estimated Rs 450 crore. Among this expansive group, a select 1,450 prominent property tax defaulters have accumulated an astounding sum of Rs 160 crore.

As part of this diligent initiative, notices will be promptly dispatched to the defaulters, affording them a 21-day ultimatum to rectify their fiscal obligations. In the event of non-compliance, stern warnings will be issued, cautioning them of the imminent possibility of property confiscation, eventually culminating in the consequential auctioning of said properties. The unwavering determination to achieve the formidable goal of collecting property taxes totalling Rs 210 crore, as set for the current fiscal year, drives this ambitious endeavour. Concurrently, the NMC's strategic approach, characterized by an innovative 8 percent rebate on property tax, has yielded encouraging outcomes.

As a testament to its efficacy, an impressive collection amounting to Rs 95 crore is anticipated between April 1st and July 5th. In contrast, during the corresponding period in the preceding year, the civic body successfully gathered a substantial sum of Rs 70 crore through property tax collections. In retrospect, the NMC has displayed remarkable prowess in exceeding expectations. Last year, the NMC exceeded its mettle by amassing an unprecedented sum of Rs 188 crore, surpassing the revised property tax collection target of Rs 185 crore set by the esteemed 15th Finance Commission as opposed to the original target of Rs 150 crore. This feat, a testament to the NMC's commitment to fiscal acumen and progressive governance, marks a milestone in its 40-year history.

With resolute dedication and forward-thinking strategies, the NMC solidifies its reputation as a pioneering force, perpetually striving for excellence in municipal administration. Through its conscientious efforts, the NMC aims to establish the epitome of efficiency and financial responsibility, ensuring the prosperity of Nashik's residents and the continued development of the city.
