The Cabinet also approved 2,515 acres of industrial plots for steel companies, expected to attract INR 25,000 crore investments and create 70,000 jobs in Raghunathpur, Durgapur, and Panagarh. Additionally, 43 plots were allotted for MSMEs, supporting 1.4 crore workers across 90 lakh units. Land was also allocated for shopping malls with space for self-help groups to promote local artisans and weavers.
The proposal to create a 25-acre International Information Technology Entertainment and Cultural Park in New Town, close to Kolkata, has been approved by the state Cabinet. The upcoming park, to be developed under the PPP model alongside the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO), will be called IITEC or Biswa Angan (in Bengali).
The park will host artists from around the globe, aiming to position itself as a prominent venue for exhibitions and cultural events, capitalising on the growing concert economy. The project is expected to boost tourism, entertainment, and creative industries in the region. The tender process for the park will commence soon.
Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the allocation of industrial plots to steel companies in a move projected to attract investments of INR 25,000 crore and generate over 70,000 direct and indirect jobs. The total land area for these industrial plots spans 2,515 acres, with designated locations in Raghunathpur, Durgapur, and Panagarh.
In a bid to foster micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the state has also sanctioned 43 plots across 15 industrial estates. West Bengal continues to lead in the MSME sector, with 1.40 crore people employed across 90 lakh units. The state is actively working to provide more land to aspiring entrepreneurs.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved land allocation for the construction of shopping malls in 11 districts, with two floors in each mall reserved for self-help groups to showcase and sell their products. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to uplift artisans and weavers, with the remaining 12 districts' proposals currently under review.
The proposed International Information Technology Entertainment and Cultural Park aims to position New Town as a global cultural hub, while industrial plot allotments are expected to attract substantial investments and employment.
