The Gujarat government approved INR 2,204 crore earlier this week for Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana urban development projects. This funding aims to enhance infrastructure across five municipal corporations, three newly formed corporations, three urban development authorities, and five municipalities. The allocated funds will support projects such as road construction, drainage systems, stormwater lines, gardens, libraries, recharge wells, city beautification, unique identity projects, and social infrastructure development. The state has designated 2025 as the 'Urban Development Year' to focus on these initiatives.
Under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, the Gujarat government approved a sizeable INR 2,204 crore for urban development projects. This initiative is set to benefit a wide array of urban entities, including five major municipal corporations Surat, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Vadodara three newly established corporations Anand, Porbandar, and Mehsana and three urban development authorities: Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA), Rajkot Urban Development Authority (RUDA), and Bhavnagar Urban Development Authority (BUDA).
The fund allocations are tailored to meet the specific demands of these urban bodies, addressing local needs and priorities. The projects to be undertaken with these funds encompass a broad spectrum of urban infrastructure development. Key initiatives include the construction of new roads, widening of existing roads, installation of underground drainage systems, development of stormwater lines, creation of gardens and libraries, establishment of recharge wells, city beautification efforts, implementation of unique identity projects, and enhancement of social infrastructure.
This strategic allocation reflects the state's commitment to fostering sustainable urban growth and improving the quality of life for its residents. The Gujarat government has declared 2025 as the 'Urban Development Year,' underscoring its focus on comprehensive urban planning and development.
