The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is preparing to launch a lottery for approximately 5,200 affordable homes in Mumbai around Diwali 2025. These homes will be distributed across various income categories, including Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG), Middle Income Group (MIG), and High Income Group (HIG). The application process will be entirely online, with further details regarding pricing, locations, and schedules to be announced in the coming months.
In the 2024-25 budget, MHADA allocated INR 9,202 crore to construct 19,497 affordable housing units across Maharashtra, with a target of 9,902 flats under the Konkan Board, which includes the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. This initiative is part of the state's broader plan to address the growing demand for affordable housing in urban areas.
The costliest unit offered in the MHADA lottery in 2024 was worth INR 6.82 crore in south Mumbai's Tardeo area, measuring over 1,500 sq ft. The apartment is located on a higher floor and is ready to move into. The building overlooks the Mahalaxmi Racecourse and faces the sea.
By offering a range of options, from EWS to HIG, the initiative seeks to make homeownership accessible to a broader segment of the population. The online application process is expected to streamline participation, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the allocation process.
