Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd (TEECL) has unveiled its digital infrastructure arm, Techno Digital Infra Pvt Ltd, supported by a substantial USD 1 billion investment aimed at developing a 250 MW cumulative capacity of hyperscale and edge data centres throughout India. The company announced the launch earlier this week, marking a significant step towards expanding its presence in the digital infrastructure sector.

Commencing its operations, the wholly-owned subsidiary is currently constructing a 36 MW hyperscale data centre within SIPCOT IT Park in Siruseri, Chennai. The facility, spanning approximately 2 lakh square feet, is designed to accommodate up to 2,400 racks and incorporates renewable energy solutions alongside Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to ensure continuous power supply. Additional sustainable features include adiabatic cooling for water efficiency, a 25 per cent green cover, and a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.35.

Future hyperscale data centre locations have been identified in Kolkata and Noida, underscoring the firm's commitment to expanding its digital infrastructure footprint nationwide.

In a regulatory filing, TEECL emphasised that Techno Digital Infra aims to establish an integrated network of hyperscale and edge data centres capable of supporting large-scale data storage and processing. The firm's vision includes deploying cutting-edge solutions for sectors such as AI, BFSI, OTT, and healthcare.

Furthermore, TEECL has entered into a strategic partnership with RailTel Corporation of India, under the Ministry of Railways, to construct edge data centres in 102 cities across 23 states. This initiative seeks to bring low-latency computing capabilities closer to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, effectively bridging the digital divide and enhancing the delivery of real-time applications.

Highlighting the company's strategic focus, Techno Digital President Amit Agrawal stated that the hybrid approach integrating hyperscale and edge infrastructure will redefine data hosting, processing, and delivery, ensuring cutting-edge technology remains accessible and affordable nationwide.

Based in Kolkata, TEECL is a prominent EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) service provider within the energy sector, now strategically positioning itself in the rapidly growing digital infrastructure landscape.

Partnering with RailTel Corporation to deploy edge data centres across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities further exemplifies TEECL's intent to bridge the digital divide and enable the widespread adoption of advanced data processing solutions across sectors such as AI, BFSI, OTT, and healthcare. The strategic focus on integrating sustainable energy solutions and cutting-edge cooling technologies reflects the company's ambition to set new benchmarks in the digital infrastructure sector.
