The Bihar government has approved a new housing scheme aimed at providing affordable accommodation for around four lakh women employees, including teachers and officials, across the state. The initiative focuses on offering safe, well-located housing near their places of posting. Properties will be leased from private landlords, with district-level committees assessing suitability, safety, and availability of basic amenities. Eligible women must submit a request to the sub-divisional officer (SDO), endorsed by their department head, to avail the scheme. The move aims to address housing challenges faced by female staff, especially in remote areas, and ensure access to secure and comfortable living arrangements. This marks a significant step in supporting Bihar's growing female workforce through practical, welfare-oriented infrastructure.
The Bihar government has recently approved a new, expansive housing scheme designed to directly address the accommodation needs of its significant female workforce. This initiative targets approximately four lakh women employees and officials, including schoolteachers, with the primary objective of providing them with affordable housing options conveniently situated near their places of posting across the state.
The scheme will be rolled out with the help of private landlords who will lease their properties to the government for this purpose. A district-level committee will be formed to oversee the suitability and safety of the accommodation; including assessing buildings for essential amenities and ensuring adequate security measures are in place.
Women employees and officials interested in availing this housing benefit are required to follow a simple application process: they need to submit a request letter to the relevant sub-divisional officer (SDO), ensuring it carries endorsements from their respective heads of office.
This scheme represents a significant step by the Bihar government in supporting its female public servants, recognizing the challenges of securing suitable accommodation, especially for those posted in remote or unfamiliar areas.
