Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched a doorstep initiative for distributing property tax bills for the financial year 2025-26, marking a notable shift towards citizen-centric and digitised municipal services. This drive commenced earlier this week, with women from registered self-help groups appointed to carry out the deliveries and collect digital information from households across the city.


These women, temporarily authorised by the NMMC and provided with official identity cards, have been tasked with delivering the tax bills to residents in both government and private societies, colonies, and housing complexes. According to Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailash Shinde, these representatives should be allowed unrestricted access to all housing premises to perform their duties efficiently. He also urged that property owners or their tenants should assist these women by sharing the full name of the property owner, a current mobile number, and an accurate email address, all of which will be used to update the Corporation's digital records.

The initiative not only aims to streamline the distribution of tax bills but also seeks to improve future communications by enabling the Property Tax Department to send bills, payment notices, and reminders directly to mobile devices and email inboxes. Residents have been encouraged to treat the women representatives with respect and extend their full cooperation throughout the process.

While the payment of property taxes continues to be facilitated online to avoid the need for physical visits to municipal offices, this home delivery mechanism is being introduced to ensure broader accessibility and to support the Corporation's ongoing digitalisation efforts. Dr. Shinde made an appeal on behalf of the NMMC for citizens to support this move, which aims to bring ease, transparency, and efficiency to public services through smart governance.

By involving women from self-help groups, the NMMC is simultaneously fostering grassroots employment and enhancing civic engagement.
