Imphal is undergoing a significant transformation with infrastructure projects totaling over INR 20,000 crore. Key developments include the INR 14,322 crore Jiribam-Imphal railway project, the INR 1,766 crore Ring Road project, and the INR 106 crore Smart City Mission initiatives. Additional projects encompass the expansion of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, the development of Kangla Nongpok Torban, and the construction of the Marjing Polo Complex. These initiatives aim to enhance connectivity, promote cultural heritage, and improve the quality of life for Imphal's residents, positioning the city as a modern urban center.

A cornerstone of this transformation is the Jiribam-Imphal railway project, with an estimated cost of INR 14,322 crore. This ambitious project aims to connect Imphal to the national railway network, featuring the world's tallest pier railway bridge at 141 meters. Upon completion, it will significantly reduce travel time and boost economic activities in the region.
Complementing this is the INR 1,766 crore Ring Road project, designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve intra-city connectivity. Spanning 51.23 kilometers, the project is funded by the Asian Development Bank and encompasses both Imphal East and West districts. It is expected to enhance mobility and support the city's growth trajectory.
Under the Smart City Mission, Imphal has initiated projects worth INR 106 crore to modernize urban infrastructure. These include the development of intelligent traffic management systems, multi-level parking facilities, and the promotion of non-motorized transport. The mission also focuses on improving public amenities and ensuring efficient service delivery through digital platforms.
The expansion of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport is another significant development. The project involves the construction of a new integrated terminal building to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and enhance the airport's capacity. This upgrade is expected to bolster tourism and facilitate better connectivity with other regions.
In a bid to preserve and promote cultural heritage, the city has developed the Kangla Nongpok Torban, a riverside recreation area along the Imphal River. This project includes walking and cycling tracks, open gyms, and performance stages, providing residents with recreational spaces while showcasing the city's rich history.
The Marjing Polo Complex, dedicated to the ancient Meitei deity Marjing and the Manipuri pony, is another cultural landmark. Spread over 23 acres, the complex features the world's tallest equestrian statue of a polo player and serves as a center for promoting traditional sports and tourism. These comprehensive infrastructure developments underscore Imphal's commitment to evolving into a modern urban center.
