The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) will conduct investor roadshows in Hyderabad and Bengaluru to promote a public-private partnership project for developing 88 acres in Madhurawada. Valued at INR 500 crore, the land holds strategic importance due to its proximity to major infrastructure, including a proposed metro station, an upcoming data centre, and Bhogapuram International Airport. VMRDA aims to attract investments for mixed-use developments such as residential, commercial, hospitality, and entertainment projects. This effort supports Andhra Pradesh's goal to become a USD 2.4 trillion economy by 2047, establishing Visakhapatnam as a key driver in the region's overall development.
As part of a major outreach effort, the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) will hold investor roadshows in Hyderabad on May 23 and Bengaluru on May 30. The goal is to draw private sector interest for a proposed public-private partnership to develop nearly 88 acres of strategic land in Madhurawada, currently under VMRDA's ownership. VMRDA has already engaged with members of CREDAI and NAREDCO to present the strategic benefits of the project. The land parcel, valued at around INR 500 crore, is poised to become a nucleus for urban growth and infrastructure expansion.
Over the past two decades, Madhurawada has transformed into a high-potential hub, serving as both a premium residential zone and a major IT destination for Visakhapatnam. It houses a designated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for information technology and continues to draw interest from major industry players. Chairperson MV Pranav Gopal and Commissioner KS Viswanathan highlighted the region's rapid progress and future growth potential. The government's project to develop a coastal corridor stretching from Kharagpur to Visakhapatnam, coupled with the new double-decker metro system, is set to accelerate the region's growth dramatically.
The designated development site is situated merely 100 metres from a proposed metro station and benefits from seamless connectivity via major arterial roads. It is situated merely one kilometre from the under-construction data centre at Kapuluppada and lies near both the thriving IT city and the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport. Its strategic location makes the site exceptionally well-suited for integrated developments, including convention centres, premium residences, commercial hubs, hospitality facilities, and entertainment zones.
According to VMRDA officials, Visakhapatnam has already established itself as a key urban centre on the national stage. With well-defined plans and visionary governance, the city is positioned for a dynamic transformation. This project aligns with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's vision of evolving Andhra Pradesh into a USD 2.4 trillion economy by 2047. By unlocking the development potential of Madhurawada, VMRDA is taking a decisive step toward fulfilling this ambitious objective.
