Synopsis

ITC Hotels has expanded its presence in Telangana with the signing of an agreement with KAC Palm Exotica Hotels Private Limited to introduce 'Welcomhotel Shankarpally', a 155-key property set to open in the Hyderabad market. This marks the debut of the 'Welcomhotel' brand in Telangana, complementing ITC's existing properties in Hyderabad ITC Kakatiya and ITC Kohenur. Meanwhile, Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has launched the 156-key Taj Alibaug Resort & Spa in Maharashtra, marking its entry into the Alibaug micro-market, a preferred leisure destination for Mumbaikars.

In a strategic move to bolster its presence in Telangana, ITC Hotels revealed earlier this week that it had entered into an agreement with KAC Palm Exotica Hotels Private Limited to establish 'Welcomhotel Shankarpally', a 155-room hotel in the Hyderabad region. This new development signifies the debut of the 'Welcomhotel' brand in the state.

Prior to this addition, ITC Hotels had already been operating two prominent properties in Hyderabad ITC Kakatiya with 188 rooms and ITC Kohenur boasting 274 rooms.

Anil Chadha, Managing Director of ITC Hotels Limited, explained that the company had adopted an 'asset right' strategy with the aim of deepening its presence in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. He emphasised that this approach is designed to deliver local and immersive travel experiences to guests.

In another development announced earlier this week, Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) opened the doors to its 156-key Taj Alibaug Resort & Spa in Maharashtra.

Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of IHCL, noted that Alibaug had long been a favourite getaway for Mumbai residents due to its coastal charm. He highlighted that the launch of the new resort marks IHCL's entry into this niche market, reinforcing the company's footprint in Maharashtra's leisure segment and further expanding its brand landscape.

ITC's commitment to its asset-light model signals a broader strategy of tapping into underserved markets with high tourism potential, while IHCL's move into Alibaug underscores a focused effort to strengthen its dominance in high-demand leisure destinations. As travel resumes full momentum, both brands appear well-positioned to capture the evolving preferences of domestic and international travellers alike.
