Synopsis

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the first phase of the Indore Metro Rail project along with the newly developed Datia and Satna airports during his visit to Bhopal later this week. The announcement was made by Madhya Pradesh's Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kailash Vijayvargiya, following a state cabinet meeting. The Prime Minister is also expected to participate in a large-scale women's empowerment programme coinciding with the 300th birth anniversary of Malwa queen Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. Nearly two lakh women are expected to attend the celebration, marking it as a significant cultural and infrastructural milestone for the state.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the first phase of the Indore Metro Rail project, along with Datia and Satna airports, during his upcoming visit to Bhopal this week. The update was shared by Madhya Pradesh Parliamentary Affairs Minister and cabinet spokesperson Kailash Vijayvargiya, who briefed reporters after a recent cabinet meeting.

According to Vijayvargiya, the Prime Minister will also participate in a women's empowerment initiative and conference being organised as part of the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar-an iconic ruler of the Malwa region. He noted that Modi would be addressing the gathering, which is expected to draw close to two lakh women from across the state.

The first phase of the Indore Metro project spans 5.90 kilometres, connecting Gandhi Nagar to Station No. 3 on the Super Corridor. Indore, often dubbed the commercial hub of Madhya Pradesh, is expected to see a significant shift in urban mobility with this development. The foundation stone for this INR 7,500.80-crore metro rail project was laid in mid-September 2019, and the overall plan envisions a metro network stretching approximately 31.50 km across the city.

Meanwhile, the Datia and Satna airports, which are also scheduled to be launched via video conferencing, are part of broader efforts to enhance regional air connectivity under the central government's UDAN scheme. These developments are likely to boost both tourism and business in central India.

By aligning the inauguration of key transport projects with the tricentenary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the government is aiming to celebrate heritage while pushing forward with urban transformation. The addition of metro connectivity in Indore and operational upgrades at Datia and Satna airports mark a continued push towards decentralised development, with a clear focus on connectivity and empowerment in Madhya Pradesh.
