A CREDAI National and CREDAI-MCHI delegation met Maharashtra's Environment Minister Pankaja Munde to address key environmental policy challenges affecting real estate in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and across the state. Led by CREDAI National Chairman Boman Irani, the group advocated for faster environmental clearances, especially for CRZ redevelopment projects, and urged the integration of CEPI-based appraisals. They proposed a One Window Clearance system via the Parivesh Portal and announced a 10-lakh tree plantation drive focused on ecologically sensitive zones. Minister Munde welcomed the industry's proactive approach, assuring support for sustainable urban development. The meeting underscored CREDAI's commitment to balancing growth with environmental responsibility.
A high-level delegation comprising CREDAI National and CREDAI-MCHI representatives met with the Hon'ble Minister for Environment, Government of Maharashtra, Smt. Pankaja Munde, earlier this week to deliberate on pressing environmental policy matters affecting real estate projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and throughout Maharashtra.
The delegation was led by Shri Boman Irani, Chairman of CREDAI National, and included prominent members such as Shri Dhaval Ajmera, Secretary of CREDAI-MCHI; Shri Rushi Mehta; Shri Madan Jain, President of the Navi Mumbai Unit; Shri Raajesh Prajapati, Chairman of the PR & Media Committee; Shri Rajesh Gupta, President of the Kalyan-Dombivli Unit; Shri Keval Valambhia, COO; and Shri Harish Gupta, Assistant General Manager of CREDAI-MCHI.
Among the critical issues raised were the need to streamline and expedite the environmental clearance process for real estate projects-particularly redevelopment projects located in Coastal Regulation Zones (CRZ). The delegation urged that appraisals be aligned with the latest Comprehensive Environmental Pollution Index (CEPI) scores, in line with recent directives from the Hon'ble High Court, to eliminate unnecessary procedural delays.
Another major demand was the introduction of a One Window Clearance Mechanism through the Parivesh Portal, equipped with state-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to resolve jurisdictional ambiguities and accelerate decision-making processes.
In a significant announcement, the delegation proposed launching a 10-lakh tree plantation drive across Maharashtra. This initiative, to be spearheaded by CREDAI National and CREDAI-MCHI, will focus on ecologically sensitive zones, including the Coastal Road Project and the Western Ghats. The campaign is expected to be executed in partnership with municipal bodies, educational institutions, and civic organisations.
Shri Boman Irani, while addressing the initiative, conveyed that CREDAI was committed to fostering urban growth in harmony with environmental responsibility. He noted that the proposed plantation drive reflected their intention to contribute meaningfully to the state's ecological goals and anticipated greater collaboration with the government to usher in faster, tech-enabled clearance systems that prioritise sustainability.
Shri Dhaval Ajmera stressed that delays in securing environmental approvals were often a hindrance to essential redevelopment and housing projects. He indicated that regulatory consistency and CEPI-based assessments could unlock housing stock for thousands of citizens. He welcomed the Minister's support as a timely and encouraging move.
Shri Raajesh Prajapati expressed that cities like Navi Mumbai, which are experiencing rapid infrastructure development, require a balanced approach to urban expansion and ecological safeguards. He affirmed the industry's alignment with the government's green agenda and pledged support through both the plantation effort and policy reforms.
Smt. Pankaja Munde appreciated the proactive stance of the real estate sector and assured the delegation that their suggestions would receive priority consideration. She acknowledged the significance of industry-led afforestation and emphasised that cooperative governance was key to achieving both environmental conservation and planned urban development.
This engagement reaffirmed CREDAI's role as a responsible and progressive real estate body, working hand-in-hand with the Government of Maharashtra to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth in the sector.
