In a recent development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a show-cause notice to actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty regarding alleged unauthorized constructions at his bungalow near Erangal beach in Malad. The notice references two ground-floor structures with mezzanine floors and three temporary 10x10 units made of materials like wooden planks, glass partitions, and AC sheet roofing, all purportedly built without requisite permissions.


Under Section 475A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, the BMC has warned that failure to provide a satisfactory explanation could result in the demolition of these structures at Chakraborty's expense, along with potential legal consequences.

Chakraborty has firmly denied any wrongdoing, stating that he has already responded to the BMC's notice. He emphasized that he believes not even an inch of his property is unauthorized.

This is not the first time Chakraborty's property has come under scrutiny; a similar notice was issued to him in 2011. The BMC's current actions are part of a larger initiative to address unauthorized constructions in the Malad area, with over 100 structures identified for demolition by the end of this month.

The confrontation between Mithun Chakraborty and the BMC underscores the ongoing tension between private property rights and municipal regulations in Mumbai. While Chakraborty maintains the legality of his property's structures, the BMC's stringent enforcement actions reflect a broader commitment to urban planning and adherence to building codes.
