In response to the recent devastating earthquake in Myanmar, the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has mandated a comprehensive assessment and retrofitting of essential buildings to enhance earthquake resilience. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), led by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, convened a meeting last month where Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the city's earthquake readiness. Authorities highlighted concerns over densely populated areas in northeast, east, and south Delhi, where unauthorized developments pose significant risks to residents.
The PWD's order emphasizes that adherence to building codes should be a non-negotiable policy imperative.
