Synopsis

In a significant move to uplift the underprivileged, Maradu Municipality in Kochi provided land deeds to five extremely poor families. Each family received three cents of land, valued at approximately INR 2.7 lakh, funded entirely by the municipality's own resources. These beneficiaries will also be integrated into the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), ensuring assistance for constructing their homes. Additionally, residential flats built for eight Scheduled Caste families are set to be handed over in the coming week, reflecting the municipality's ongoing commitment to social welfare.

In a heartening gesture coinciding with Vishu, the Maradu Municipality in Kochi has allocated land deeds to five families identified as extremely poor. Each family has been granted three cents of land, with each plot valued at approximately INR 2.7 lakh. This initiative is entirely financed by the municipality's own funds, underscoring its dedication to addressing housing insecurity among the most vulnerable.

Municipality Chairperson Antony Ashanparambil highlighted that the local body had previously extended similar support to five other families in the same category. He emphasized that the municipality had purchased the land using its own resources, ensuring that each beneficiary receives a three-cent plot.

The beneficiaries of this initiative will be integrated into the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a central government scheme aimed at providing affordable housing to the urban poor. The municipality will assist these families in constructing their homes under this program, facilitating a comprehensive approach to housing security.

In addition to this, the municipality has constructed residential flats for eight Scheduled Caste families. These flats are scheduled to be handed over in the coming week, further demonstrating the local body's commitment to inclusive development and social equity.

Maradu Municipality's proactive measures reflect a broader commitment to social justice and inclusive growth. By directly addressing housing needs through land allocation and integration into national housing schemes, the municipality sets a precedent for localized, impactful governance. Such initiatives not only provide immediate relief to disadvantaged families but also pave the way for long-term community development and stability.
