According to officials, multiple commercial entities are emerging along the South City area. In response, the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) officials are devising a plan to introduce a new scheme that combines green industry and residential components. The scheme aims to foster sustainable development by incorporating environmentally friendly practices within industrial and residential spaces. Through this initiative, LIT intends to create a harmonious blend of industry and residential areas while promoting a greener and sustainable environment. The scheme's launch is anticipated to provide a platform for both commercial and residential growth, catering to the evolving needs of the region.
Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) is set to introduce a groundbreaking scheme, reminiscent of the South City project, aimed at revitalizing the city. After almost two decades, LIT is taking proactive steps to launch a new initiative that focuses on green industry development. In this forthcoming scheme, priority will be given to establishing eco-friendly businesses in the Lohara area.

Officials at LIT have already commenced their preparations and have recently issued tenders to hire a consultant who will assist in the implementation of the scheme. Encouraged by the success of various commercial ventures within the South City project, LIT officials are now aiming to create a green industry-cum-residential scheme.
LIT Chairman, Tarsem Bhinder, accompanied by a team of officials, recently conducted a visit to potential locations such as Lohara, Jaspal Banger, and neighboring areas. The trust plans to acquire approximately 250 to 300 acres of land to facilitate the project. Presently, officials have been instructed to expedite the administrative process to initiate the acquisition phase.
Sources close to the matter have disclosed that officials are considering the possibility of developing the scheme through land pooling. LIT envisions the establishment of hotels, restaurants, and theaters spanning an area of approximately 3 to 4 kilometers along the canal, with residential areas situated in the rear portion.
Chairman Bhinder expressed optimism about the advanced stage of planning and expressed hope for government support to ensure the scheme's success. If approved, this ambitious project will bring a new era of environmentally conscious industrial growth to the city.
In a noteworthy move, LIT has also submitted a proposal to transfer the maintenance responsibilities of existing areas to the Municipal Corporation (MC). LIT cites a shortage of staff and machinery as the reason for this proposal and seeks approval from the local bodies department for the handover.
