Synopsis

Chhattisgarh has taken a significant step towards entering the high-tech manufacturing space with the foundation stone laid for its first semiconductor plant in Nava Raipur last week. The project, spearheaded by Chennai-based Polymatech Electronics, will be built on a 1,50,000 sqft plot and is expected to produce 10 billion chips by 2030. Backed by INR 1,143 crore in investment, the plant will manufacture Gallium Nitride chips essential for 5G and 6G technologies. The initiative is part of a broader vision to transform Nava Raipur into the Silicon Valley of the state, aided by a proactive industrial policy and rapid government approvals.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai recently laid the foundation stone for the state's first semiconductor manufacturing facility in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, marking a major push toward high-tech industrialization in the region. He mentioned that Nava Raipur is being envisioned as the "Silicon Valley of Chhattisgarh", with this landmark project acting as a cornerstone in that transformation.

The facility is being developed by Chennai-based Polymatech Electronics and will span 1,50,000 square feet. The plant is expected to be equipped for the production of advanced Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor chips-essential for 5G and emerging 6G technologies-with a projected output of 10 billion chips by 2030. These chips will cater to key industries such as telecom, mobile (especially 6G and 7G components), laptops, power electronics, and data transmission.

The state's new industrial policy includes special incentives for the semiconductor sector, aimed at attracting substantial private investments. CM Sai remarked that countries that have achieved rapid development did so by fostering an environment conducive to technological growth. He expressed satisfaction that the chips supporting future technologies like 6G and 7G would soon be made in India, specifically in Chhattisgarh, by Indian engineers.

The collaboration with Polymatech was initiated during an investor outreach programme in Delhi held a few months ago. During the event, state officials engaged with the company's leadership, who subsequently showed strong interest in investing in Chhattisgarh.

The Chief Minister highlighted the speed of government action, stating that land was allotted in Sector 5 of Nava Raipur through a swift tender process conducted by the Nava Raipur Development Authority. The entire lease deed was finalised and registered in under 25 days-a reflection of the administration's proactive approach.

In a symbolic move to mark the beginning of this high-tech venture, CM Sai also handed over appointment letters to young professionals set to join the upcoming unit.

Polymatech Electronics' Managing Director and CEO, Eswara Rao Nandam, has proposed a further investment of INR 10,000 crore to set up a power module fabrication plant in the state. The announcement underlines the company's long-term commitment to the region's industrial ecosystem.

Rajat Kumar, Secretary of the Commerce and Industry Department, noted that Chhattisgarh's policies are strategically structured to attract cutting-edge manufacturing projects and reinforce the state's ambition to lead in the tech innovation space.

The move not only enhances the state's industrial profile but also sets the stage for significant employment and skill development. As India pushes for technological self-reliance, such projects could play a critical role in shaping the country's electronics and semiconductor landscape.
