The Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway has achieved a record-breaking revenue of INR 4,485 crore in FY 2024-25, its highest ever. Passenger services, freight operations, AC local trains, and station-based services such as parking and catering contributed significantly to this growth. With passenger revenue alone exceeding INR 3,782 crore, the performance reflects rising ridership, infrastructure upgrades, and digital ticketing initiatives. The strong financials signal sustained momentum in transport infrastructure efficiency and commercial viability in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway has closed the 2024-25 financial year with a record commercial revenue of INR 4,485 crore, the highest in its history. This performance highlights robust growth across multiple streams, including passenger services, freight operations, AC EMU services, and station-based commercial contracts.
According to Western Railway authorities, passenger revenue contributed more than INR 3,782 crore, boosted by the growing ridership of AC local trains. Over 4.55 crore commuters opted for AC locals during the year, generating INR 215 crore. The division also earned INR 256 crore from the AC train segment alone.
Additional revenue was generated through station-based commercial services-parking contracts earned INR 14 crore, while catering stalls brought in INR 16 crore. Officials attributed the improved financials to the digitalisation of ticketing services, better passenger management, and infrastructure upgrades, all aimed at enhancing commuter experience and operational efficiency.
Western Railway's Mumbai Central Division has set a benchmark for operational and financial performance by leveraging infrastructure upgrades, digital transformation, and multichannel revenue generation. The record revenue of INR 4,485 crore not only reflects strong commuter demand in one of India's busiest transit regions but also demonstrates the effectiveness of sustained investment in rail infrastructure.
