The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertook decisive action against unauthorized constructions in Nerul and Belapur. Despite prior notices, violators failed to comply, prompting demolition under the guidance of Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. In Nerul, an illegal mezzanine structure was removed and an INR 10,000 fine was imposed. Similarly, 72 unauthorized huts behind the Sector-20 cemetery in Belapur were cleared. The operations were carried out with the support of engineering staff, laborers, machinery, and police.
Despite the issuance of a notice by the Encroachment Department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the concerned parties failed to take cognizance of the directive. Accordingly, under the guidance of Honble Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and the supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Mr. Bhagwat Doiphode, demolition action was carried out by the Encroachment Department in the Nerul and Belapur divisions.
In the Nerul division, within the jurisdiction of NMMC, an on-site inspection was conducted at the premises of Mr. Dinesh Mishra, Vinayak Dairy, Vighnahar Society, Plot No. 1, Shop No. 6, Sector-10, Nerul, Navi Mumbai. The inspection revealed an unauthorized mezzanine construction, approximately 2.45m x 7.80m in size, which was found to be in use. Consequently, a notice under Section 53 (1A) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 was issued on 11/03/2025 by the Nerul Division Office. However, even after the notice period lapsed, the unauthorized structure was not removed voluntarily.
As a result, the Nerul Division Office undertook a demolition drive on 22/04/2025 and removed the unauthorized construction. Additionally, a penalty of INR 10,000 was recovered from the concerned party.
The action was carried out under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner and Divisional Officer Mr. Jayant Jawadekar, along with Junior Engineer Mr. Sanjay Sontakke, staff from the Encroachment Department, 10 laborers, and one gas cutter. The operation was conducted in coordination with the Encroachment Department's police squad and security personnel.
In a separate incident, unauthorized huts were identified behind the cemetery in Sector-20, Belapur, Navi Mumbai, under NMMC's jurisdiction.
The A Division Office, Belapur, conducted a demolition operation and removed 72 unauthorized huts from the area behind the Sector-20 cemetery in Belapur. This intensive operation involved officials and staff from the Belapur Division, supported by 2 JCB machines, 10 laborers, 1 Eicher vehicle, and personnel from the Encroachment Department's police team.
Further stringent actions of this nature will continue to be undertaken going forward.
