Synopsis

Gurugram is undergoing a major transformation in 2025 with INR 2,887.32 crore allocated for infrastructure upgrades. Key highlights include a 28.5 km metro corridor with 27 stations linking Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, slated to start construction on May 1. GMDA also approved INR 249.77 crore for road repairs and INR 8.25 crore for SPR upgrades. In water management, the 100 MLD Chandu Budhera project nears completion, while a INR 3,000 crore plan will convert the GWS canal into a covered pipeline. These projects aim to ease traffic, improve water supply, and elevate quality of life in the Millennium City.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has approved a substantial budget of INR 2,887.32 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, reflecting a strong commitment to the city's development.

A centerpiece of this transformation is the expansion of the Gurugram Metro network. Scheduled to commence construction on May 1, 2025, the project entails a 28.5 km corridor connecting Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, featuring 27 elevated stations. With an estimated cost of INR 5,452.72 crore, the funding is a collaborative effort between the central government, contributing INR 896.19 crore, and the Haryana government, providing INR 4,556.53 crore. The metro will initially operate with three-coach trains, expandable to six, and will utilize Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology for efficient operations.

In tandem with the metro expansion, GMDA is addressing road infrastructure to alleviate traffic congestion. Eleven projects, amounting to INR 249.77 crore, have been approved, focusing on the repair and strengthening of 64 km of master sector roads and 17.2 km of service roads. Additionally, a INR 8.25 crore tender has been awarded for the upgrade of a 5.5 km stretch of the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) from Vatika Chowk to NH-48, aiming to enhance connectivity and traffic flow in the region.

Water management is another critical area of focus. The Chandu Budhera Water Supply Project (Unit 4), with a capacity of 100 million liters per day (MLD), is nearing completion, with 80% of the work finished and expected to be operational by January 2025. Furthermore, the Gurugram Water Supply (GWS) canal is set for a INR 3,000 crore revamp, transforming the open canal into a covered pipeline to prevent water loss and maintain quality. By 2026, the city's water supply network will be brought under centralized control through the Centralised Integrated Water Management System (CIWMS), employing advanced technology to monitor pipelines and ensure efficient distribution.

These comprehensive initiatives underscore Gurugram's commitment to sustainable urban development, aiming to create a more connected, efficient, and livable city for its residents.
