Synopsis

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), district officials, and traffic police conducted a joint inspection earlier this week and found numerous infractions in the city's main business districts, including Kutchery Chowk, Shaheed Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk, Daily Market, and Anjuman Plaza. The violations identified encompassed unauthorized conversion of parking spaces into commercial units, illegal building extensions, and extensive street encroachments. In response, the RMC has initiated self-assessment procedures for properties in violation to ensure accurate tax compliance and has halted unauthorized construction activities.

Earlier this week, a comprehensive inspection drive conducted by the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), in collaboration with district officials and traffic police, revealed significant violations across major commercial areas in Ranchi. The inspection team, led by RMC administrator Sandeep Singh, surveyed key locations including Kutchery Chowk, Shaheed Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk, Daily Market, and Anjuman Plaza.

The violations uncovered during the inspection included the unauthorized conversion of parking spaces into commercial units, illegal building extensions, and widespread street encroachments. These infractions not only contravene municipal regulations but also disrupt traffic flow and pedestrian movement. In response to these findings, officials announced that properties found in violation of building and zoning regulations would undergo self-assessment to ensure accurate tax compliance.

Sanjay Kumar, additional administrator of RMC, emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that many commercial properties were misusing parking areas as shops or storage units, thereby violating municipal regulations and affecting traffic flow. He further added that non-compliant buildings would face assessment and subsequent action.

In addition to halting unauthorized construction work near Shastri Market due to pending plan verification, officials also stopped unauthorized PVC work at a building near Sarjana Chowk. Structures with illegal additions at M. Bazar and City Style were also identified for survey and necessary action.

At Daily Market, enforcement teams took action by removing vendors and hawkers from public walkways, citing obstructions in pedestrian movement. Sanjay Kumar reiterated the persistence of encroachments and assured that monitoring efforts would be strengthened, with necessary actions to be taken.

Furthermore, officials ordered the removal of redundant electricity poles and the management of hanging wires in commercial spaces across the city to enhance safety and aesthetics.

The initiation of self-assessment procedures for properties in violation reflects a proactive approach to ensure accurate tax compliance and deter future infractions. As Ranchi continues to grow, such enforcement actions are crucial in maintaining the integrity of its commercial areas and fostering sustainable urban development.
