Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has announced its intentions to venture into the metro operations and maintenance (O&M) segment, along with expanding its network of international collaborations. German based Deutsche Bahn (DB) is said to have approached the company to discuss a potential partnership to undertake O&M contracts for the Bengaluru Namma Metro.
The Chairman and Managing Director of RVNL Pradeep Gaur confirmed plans for the same to multiple news publications. Representatives of DB also spoke to the media, discussing their current operating contracts for the Namo Bharat Corridor in Delhi and the 12-year O&M contract for the Delhi-Meerut regional rapid rail project. They also indicated that the company is open to exploring more O&M projects and partnerships in the country, such as possibly acquiring the O&M contract for the Chennai Metro project.
Apart from O&M contracts, RVNL has been actively involved in the development of metro rail infrastructure projects in several cities including Nagpur, Pune, Surat and Indore. Going forward, the company hopes to expand to neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal as well as the middle east such as UAE. Currently, the company's international projects contribute to only 5% of its INR 1 lac crore order book, something they aim to raise to 50% in the near future.
RVNL's expansion plans mark a decisive shift towards global infrastructure development and diversification. RVNL appears to be on a transformative path, with plans to establish itself as a significant player in metro operations and maintenance, both within India and internationally.
