Amitabh Bachchan has made another major real estate investment in Ayodhya, acquiring a 54,454 sq. ft. plot through the Harivansh Rai Bachchan Trust. This follows his earlier INR 4.54 crore purchase in Haveli Avadh. While the first property near the Ram Mandir is speculated to be residential, the latest acquisition may serve a charitable purpose. Ayodhya has become a prime investment destination, attracting big names like The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL), which has invested INR 1,200 crore. Bachchan's growing real estate portfolio, including recent high-value acquisitions in Mumbai, highlights a trend of celebrity investments in prime locations.
Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has made another significant land purchase in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Through the Harivansh Rai Bachchan Trust, established in 2013 to honor his late father, the esteemed poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, he acquired a 54,454-square-foot plot located approximately 10 kilometers from the recently inaugurated Ram Mandir. This acquisition marks his second in the region, following a previous purchase on January 16, 2024, in Haveli Avadh, valued at INR 4.54 crore.
Both transactions were facilitated by Rajesh Rishikesh Yadav on behalf of the actor and the trust. Pratap Singh, Assistant Inspector General of the Stamp and Registration Department of Ayodhya, confirmed the sales, stating, "We can only confirm that sale deeds have taken place. Once the building plan is approved by the local development authority, one would know what is going to be the purpose of the two investments."
Speculations suggest that the initial property near Ram Mandir is intended for residential use, while the larger, recently acquired plot may serve charitable purposes, potentially as a memorial for Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Bachchan's investments reflect a broader trend of increased interest in Ayodhya's real estate, especially following the Ram Mandir's consecration in 2024. The city has witnessed a surge in property acquisitions by notable figures and corporations. For instance, in January 2024, Bachchan purchased a 10,000-square-foot plot valued at approximately INR 14.5 crore in 'The Sarayu,' a seven-star mixed-use enclave developed by The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL). This project, located about 15 minutes from the Ram Mandir and 30 minutes from the Ayodhya International Airport, is set to include a five-star palace hotel in collaboration with Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, with completion expected by March 2028.
HoABL, established in 2021, has been actively investing in Ayodhya, acquiring over 75 acres by 2024 and planning to invest INR 1,200 crore in the city. The company's projects aim to transform Ayodhya into a modern urban center while preserving its cultural heritage.
Bachchan's real estate ventures extend beyond Ayodhya. In recent years, he and his son, Abhishek Bachchan, have invested significantly in Mumbai's real estate market. Notably, they purchased 10 apartments in Oberoi Realty's Eternia at Mulund West for nearly INR 25 crore, adding to a portfolio that has surpassed INR 100 crore between 2020 and 2024. Such investments highlight a trend among Bollywood celebrities diversifying their assets into real estate, both for personal use and as strategic financial decisions.
Amitabh Bachchan's continued investments in Ayodhya underscore the city's rising prominence as a real estate hotspot, driven by infrastructural developments and cultural significance. These strategic acquisitions, coupled with similar moves by other celebrities and corporations, are poised to transform Ayodhya's landscape, blending modern amenities with its rich heritage.
