A demolition drive by YEIDA and district officials razed 25 illegal buildings in Ramner, Sabauta, and Kishorepur villages in Jewar tehsil. The structures were on land designated for the Noida airport's third and fourth phases. Despite prior warnings, landowners built new homes to secure higher compensation, as farmers are eligible for extra-funds if permanent structures exist on acquired land. The drive, supported by over 100 policemen and 11 earthmovers, lasted four hours without major protests. YEIDA plans further demolitions, targeting around 200 additional illegal buildings in the region.
Officials from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and the district administration conducted a four-hour demolition drive on Monday, targeting illegal constructions in Jewar tehsil. The operation took place in Ramner, Sabauta, and Kishorepur villages, where 25 unauthorized buildings were demolished. These structures had been erected on land earmarked for the Noida International Airport's third and fourth phases, despite prior warnings from authorities.
The administration had previously cautioned over 100 landowners against further construction after the land was officially notified for acquisition. However, many disregarded these warnings and continued building, prompting the demolition drive. The decision to clear these illegal structures was made to prevent encroachments that could delay the airport expansion.
For the upcoming phases of the airport project, 2,053 hectares of land will be acquired from 14 villages. The large-scale acquisition is expected to impact approximately 42,000 farmers, with 9,500 of them requiring rehabilitation. While the administration has already secured consent from most affected families, some landowners attempted to take advantage of compensation policies by constructing new buildings after the notification. Officials noted that compensation is higher for landowners with existing houses or permanent structures at the time of acquisition, which led to the surge in unauthorized construction.
In response to these developments, the administration established special monitoring teams to oversee the notified areas, identify unauthorized construction, and intervene before further violations occurred. Despite these efforts, some villagers persisted in erecting new structures, leading authorities to take action.
As part of the demolition operation, more than 100 police personnel accompanied YEIDA and district officials to maintain order. The team deployed 11 earthmovers, initiating the drive at 2 PM and completing it within four hours. The operation proceeded smoothly without any significant resistance or protests from the affected villagers.
The issue of unauthorized construction extends beyond the three villages targeted in Monday's drive. Inspection reports indicate that illegal structures have also been built in Neemka, Thora, Banwari Bas, Mukimpur Shivara, Kishorepur, and Ramner. In light of this, YEIDA has issued fresh warnings to landowners in these areas. Officials have announced plans to clear an estimated 200 additional illegal buildings in the coming days to ensure smooth progress on the airport project.
The state government has already acquired 1,334 hectares for the first phase and 1,365 hectares for the second phase of the Noida International Airport project, with compensation distributed among affected families. Authorities remain committed to ensuring the land acquisition process is not hindered by unauthorized construction and are prepared to take further action as necessary.
