The Chandigarh administration plans to introduce Aadhaar-based authentication for property registrations, aiming to streamline the verification process. This system will allow applicants to authenticate their identities using their Aadhaar numbers, either through biometric or demographic data submission to UIDAI's Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR). The initiative, set to launch soon, will complement manual document checks and improve transparency. Alongside Aadhaar verification, a similar process for PAN card authentication is also in the pipeline. These measures, coupled with the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) introduced earlier, are expected to reduce processing time, minimise discrepancies, and prevent fraudulent activities.
The Chandigarh administration is gearing up to revolutionise property registration with the introduction of an Aadhaar-based authentication system. This initiative aims to simplify and streamline the identity verification process for property buyers and sellers. Under this new system, applicants will be required to provide their Aadhaar number, which will be verified using either demographic or biometric data through the Unique Identification Authority of India's (UIDAI) Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).
Nishant Kumar Yadav, the deputy commissioner-cum-estate officer, shared that the administration has submitted a proposal to UIDAI and is awaiting approval. He stated that the Aadhaar-enabled verification system is expected to be rolled out in the coming month. Once operational, this system will be incorporated into the verification process for property transactions, ensuring a more transparent and efficient mechanism.
The Aadhaar authentication system will initially function on a voluntary basis. It will rely on biometric verification, where applicants' thumb impressions will be scanned to automatically retrieve the required data from CIDR. This advanced system is designed to eliminate the need for lengthy manual document checks, which often result in delays and discrepancies. The initiative aims to enhance transparency, speed up the registration process, and significantly reduce the risk of fraud or impersonation.
To complement Aadhaar authentication, a similar verification process for PAN cards is also being considered. This move will further fortify the system, ensuring the authenticity of property transactions and creating a reliable database for authorities to reference.
At present, the property registration process in Chandigarh involves manual verification of documents, which can be time-consuming and prone to errors. By integrating Aadhaar-based biometric verification, the administration seeks to mitigate these challenges. The use of thumb impressions for verification will ensure accurate authentication and significantly improve the reliability of the process.
This development follows a series of digital initiatives introduced by the Chandigarh administration to modernise its registration services. Last month, the administration launched the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS), along with an 'Online Event Permissions System' and an 'Online Certified Copy of Record of Rights' service at the city's sub-registrar office. NGDRS has already simplified the process by enabling applicants to book appointments online, reducing the need for physical visits to the registrar's office.
These digital measures represent a concerted effort to streamline administrative processes, enhance transparency, and make property transactions more efficient. The Aadhaar-based system, when combined with these newly introduced digital services, has the potential to set a benchmark for property registration procedures across the country.
