The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched a newly updated online property tax collection system, aimed at simplifying the payment process for residents. Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailash Shinde introduced this modernised system earlier this week, integrating advanced technologies such as net banking, UPI, QR codes, and digital wallets. As a result, online tax payments have reportedly increased by nearly 15%. Additionally, the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) is set to be implemented within the next 2 weeks, offering residents 24x7 access to make secure payments through major banks and digital platforms. Furthermore, the Municipal Corporation has introduced the Abhay Yojana, granting a 50% concession on late payment penalties for arrears, encouraging citizens to settle outstanding dues by the end of March.
Prioritising the resolution of challenges experienced by Navi Mumbaikars whilst paying property tax online, the Municipal Commissioner, Dr Kailash Shinde, launched a newly modernised online property tax collection system earlier this week. This advanced platform, developed using new technology, was aimed at providing a seamless and swift tax payment experience.
According to feedback spontaneously received from citizens across different sectors, this upgraded online system was deemed highly efficient. It was also observed that the number of citizens opting to pay their property tax online had increased by approximately 15% following the implementation of this system.
With various fast and user-friendly payment options now available-such as net banking, UPI, QR codes, and digital wallets-residents have shown an increasing preference for paying taxes from the comfort of their homes or offices, as opposed to the traditional offline method of visiting the Municipal Corporation office.
Additionally, Dr Shinde stated that the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) would be introduced within the next 10 to 12 days. This facility, once in place, will enable direct payment of property taxes via all major banks, payment applications, and other digital platforms. The BBPS will provide round-the-clock access to make payments securely from any location. Furthermore, with approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), this system is expected to offer faster and more secure transactions. It is anticipated that the launch of the BBPS will result in an additional 15 to 20% rise in online tax payments.
In a move to further support taxpayers, the Municipal Corporation announced the Abhay Yojana, offering a 50% discount on late payment penalties applicable to outstanding property tax arrears. Dr Shinde urged citizens to take advantage of this scheme and settle their dues by 12 midnight on 31st March 2025.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's recent initiatives, including the launch of the upgraded online tax payment system and the upcoming introduction of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), reflect a strong commitment to enhancing taxpayer convenience. Alongside Abhay Yojana, these measures are expected to drive a substantial increase in online property tax payments, ensuring a smoother experience for Navi Mumbaikars.
