Oaktree Capital Management, a leading global investment firm, has opened a new office in Hyderabad's HITEC City, highlighting its commitment to India and its skilled workforce. The expansion aims to strengthen operations and service delivery. Co-Chairman Howard Marks praised Hyderabad's business environment and talent pool. Oaktree, a major investor in India's private credit space, has deployed over $4 billion since 2018. The Hyderabad office is its second in India, following Mumbai's 2023 launch. With $202 billion in assets under management, Oaktree operates in 24 global cities, focusing on credit, equity, and real estate investments.
Oaktree Capital Management, L.P. ("Oaktree"), a prominent global investment management firm specialising in alternative investments, inaugurated its new office in Hyderabad, India, situated in HITEC City.
The decision to expand its operations in India underscored Oaktree's long-term commitment to the region and its recognition of the outstanding local talent available. This expansion has been aimed at enabling the firm to attract, retain, and develop its workforce in Hyderabad, whilst ensuring the delivery of high-quality service to both its internal teams and external stakeholders across the globe.
Howard Marks, Co-Chairman of Oaktree, expressed enthusiasm regarding the firm's presence in Hyderabad, describing the city as renowned for its vibrant business environment, innovation, and highly skilled workforce. He stated that Oaktree Hyderabad represented their unwavering dedication to operational excellence and their confidence in the significant opportunities that India continues to offer.
Oaktree remains one of the largest and most active investors in India's private credit space, having deployed in excess of USD 4 billion since 2018. The Hyderabad office marks the firm's second location in India, following the launch of its Mumbai office in 2023. The Mumbai branch operates under the leadership of Gaurav Parasrampuria, Head of Asia for Oaktree's Global Opportunistic strategy.
Presently, Oaktree maintains offices in 24 cities globally, including nine within the Asia-Pacific region-namely, Hyderabad, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Mumbai, Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul.
Oaktree is widely regarded as a leader among global investment managers specialising in alternative assets. As of December 31, 2024, the firm reported assets under management totalling USD 202 billion. Oaktree maintains a focus on an opportunistic, value-driven, and risk-controlled investment approach across credit, equity, and real estate.
