The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has ordered an accelerated completion of the Dindoshi-Goregaon-Dadasaheb Phalke Film City flyover, a key part of the 12.2 km Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR). Officials are deploying extra workforce and three shifts to expedite construction. The six-lane, 1,265-meter flyover is crucial for east-west connectivity, reducing travel time from 75-90 minutes to just 15-25 minutes. The GMLR project, set for completion by 2028, includes twin 4.7 km underground tunnels beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park. This initiative is expected to boost real estate in Mulund, Malad, and Goregaon, improving Mumbai's urban transport network.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a directive to expedite the completion of the Dindoshi-Goregaon-Dadasaheb Phalke Film City flyover, a key segment of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR). Officials have been instructed to deploy an additional workforce and operate in three shifts to ensure the flyover is operational for commuters at the earliest.
During a recent inspection of the first phase of the project, authorities reviewed the construction progress of the six-lane, 1,265-meter-long flyover. The GMLR, spanning 12.2 km, is a critical infrastructure initiative designed to enhance connectivity between Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs, significantly reducing travel time and easing congestion in the region.
The GMLR is a transformative infrastructure initiative that is set to significantly improve east-west connectivity in Mumbai. As previously highlighted in our article published earlier this month, the 12.2 km road will connect the Western Express Highway (WEH) at Goregaon with the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) at Mulund. Scheduled for completion by 2028, the project is expected to slash travel time between these key areas from 75-90 minutes to just 15-25 minutes. Additionally, it is anticipated to spur real estate development in Mulund, Malad, and Goregaon, enhancing their residential and commercial appeal.
A pivotal aspect of the project includes the construction of twin underground tunnels stretching from Dadasaheb Phalke Film City to Khindipada in Mulund. Each tunnel, measuring 4.7 km, is set to run beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park, ensuring seamless connectivity while preserving the natural ecosystem. The tunnel boring machine (TBM) is anticipated to arrive in the coming months, marking a crucial milestone for the project's progress.
The urgency displayed by the BMC in fast-tracking the Dindoshi-Goregaon flyover underscores the critical role of infrastructure in addressing Mumbai's growing transportation needs. As the city continues to expand, such projects are pivotal in streamlining connectivity and improving the overall urban commute experience.
